Office of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel   American Bar Association Evaluation Report

The ABA Standing Committee on Professional Discipline examines the structure, operations and procedures of various jurisdictions' lawyer disciplinary systems at the invitation of that jurisdiction's highest court. These studies allow the state to take advantage of model disciplinary procedures that have been adopted by the ABA, as well as disciplinary mechanisms in use in other states. In February of 2001, the ABA submitted the findings of their evaluation of Missouri's attorney disciplinary system.

As a result of the ABA Evaluation, the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel will focus on several changes and improvements to the current disciplinary system. Some of the recommended changes include:

  • Launching a website for the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel;
  • Establishing a "hot line" for the public to access OCDC by phone;
  • Raising public awareness of OCDC through informational seminars;
  • Simplifying the process of filing complaints;
  • Opening branch offices in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas.
